Description:

The interactive notebook will be your main collection of work that you will be doing in our class.  It will contain most of your assignments except tests, quizzes, and projects.  All class work and homework will be done in this notebook.  I would like you to know that I see your notebook as an extension and reflection of you and your learning; therefore, your best effort should go into creating a great notebook.  Represent yourself well.

This notebook counts a large portion of your final grade, so completing and submitting notebooks regularly is absolutely necessary.  Quality is a very important aspect of this notebook.  Your work should be done correctly with attention to appearance as well as content. You will notice that the amount of effort you put into your notebook will directly improve your success and grade in class.

Purpose:

  • To enable you to become a creative, independent thinker and writer

  • To improve and refine your note-taking and organizational skills

  • To enable you to reflect, analyze, and process content

  • To create a portfolio of individual learning

  • To give you a medium where you can showcase your pride in your work

Important Rules and procedures:

  • Notebooks MUST have a plastic cover, and it MUST be the appropriate size.

  • This notebook is only for this class! I do not want to find notes or assignments from other classes in this notebook. Your grade will dramatically drop if there is doodling, tagging, notes, or information from any other classes in it.

  • Your notebook will be needed everyday; do not forget it or lose it.

  • In the event that you LOSE your notebook, you will be responsible for re-creating ALL of the assignments within the current unit of study.

  • I will announce collection times for grading your notebooks a minimum of two days in advance.  Homework assignments will be checked the day they are due.

Grading:

Every time notebooks are collected for grading, certain assignments will be reviewed and graded. The following is required in every grading period for a passing grade:

  • Every page is numbered correctly with assignments on the correct pages and the table of contents is updated

  • All assignments that need to be glued in are neatly glued in on the correct page; there are no loose papers

  • Every page has the date of the assignment

  • All assignments are completed correctly and completely by due date

  • All work and overall appearance of the notebook is neat and displays a student’s maximum effort

  • The student’s pride in his/her work is obvious
